About Us
In 1930 Brigadier General Arthur Lloyd of Leaton Knolls Estate gifted land to the residents of the local district (Bomere Heath / Leaton and Preston Gubbals) for the purpose of a Village Hall. The gift was contained within a trust with the deeds held by five local trustees.
The trust conveyance (Governance Document) set out a Management Committee consisting of up to 20 representatives from 13 different local organisations including local schools, churches, the British Legion, Parish Councils, the Ancient Order of Foresters, Bomere Heath Men's Club, Bomere Heath Cricket Club and the local Nursing Association. The Committee could co-opt a further 9 members to represent interests not represented by any of the listed organisations. Where new organisations were formed with similar aims of the original organisations membership of the Management Committee could be increased.
Since 1930 the Village hall has been extended and many of the original organisations have either closed or have ceased to have any involvement in the management of the Village Hall. Bomere Heath Village Hall (BHVH) is an unincorporated charitable trust and is registered and regulated by the Charity Commission. In short this means that the trustees are responsible and liable for the trust and have to comply with strict regulatory requirements.
The Management Committee is currently made up of six management Trustees who represent local organisations who use the Village Hall and co-opted individuals from Bomere Heath.
The Management Committee’s sole responsibility is to provide and maintain the Village Hall for the purpose of recreation and social intercourse of the residents of the Bomere Heath District. BHVH is wholly reliant in generating operating funds through the hire of the Village Hall rooms and organising fund-raising activities, and where it can BHVH has sought various grants for projects.
The Future
The use of village halls have changed over the last decade with fewer organisations using their local facilities and less well supported community events. COVID19 has certainly taken its toll too. Our Management Committee numbers nearly dropped below the limit needed to operate BHVH, this would have led to the closure of the Village Hall and Tennis Courts. Luckily a number of new volunteers have stepped forward and we are starting to see the Management Committee and wider volunteer group breathing a new lease of life into the Village Hall. More importantly the community are using Hall and supporting community events again.
Volunteers
BHVH is wholly reliant upon local volunteers. Whether it’s to manage the administration of the Charity, ensure the building and facilities are maintained, or volunteer in the Community Coffee Shop, there is always a need for local people to help. Without this support BHVH would simply cease to operate and a valuable Community asset lost for ever. Volunteering in your local community is extremely rewarding and a great way to meet new people and make new friends. If you are interested in joining the growing group of volunteers please do get in touch.
